One person, start to finish.

zuoshi is a one-person web studio in Oswestry, Shropshire, that designs and builds websites, online shops and booking systems for small businesses, priced from £1,950, with the domain, accounts and data in the client's name.

I’m Steve Jarvis.

I design and build every zuoshi site myself. The person you talk to on the first call is the person who builds the site and looks after it afterwards.

I have a degree in Interactive Multimedia Design, and my background is in design communications and making game assets. What I bring to a business is problem solving: finding where a website or a system can save it money or win it more work, and then building that.

How a build runs.

Ten steps, the same on every build, from a Launch site to a platform. You see the site working on a private preview from the foundation onwards.

  1. A first call and a written quote

    What the business needs the site to do, which build fits, the price and a start date. The quote is in writing and holds for sixty days.

  2. Set up in your name

    The domain, hosting and every account are opened in your name. I'm added as a user, and you can remove me.

  3. A direction you sign off

    A design direction drawn for your business, from your brand or from scratch. Nothing is built until you've said yes to it.

  4. The foundation

    Colours, type, menus, error pages, the home-screen icon, and the groundwork for search and security.

  5. Pages and words

    Every page written and built, phone first, then widened for desktop.

  6. Features

    The shop, the bookings, the forms or the admin: whatever the business needs the site to do.

  7. Finish

    A design review, then speed, accessibility and every page checked on phones by script, so nothing scrolls sideways.

  8. Security and search

    Security scored against 26 controls and fixed, and the search foundations checked by script. You see the results.

  9. Launch

    The site goes live on your domain, search engines are told, and you get a guide to setting up Google and Bing.

  10. Care

    Hosting, updates and a monthly security and search check on a care plan, or the site handed over with its code.

What it’s built on

Next.js, hosted on Vercel, with a Postgres database in London where a site needs one, Cloudflare for domains, Resend for email, and Square or Stripe for payments. Not WordPress, Drupal, .NET or Salesforce: if the business runs on one of those, I’m not the right studio for it.
